Summary

Shared Lives Stoke are searching for people from Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas, who have an empathetic nature and a passion to make a difference in a person’s life.

Shared Lives Carers open up their own home to adults aged 18 and above that have a Learning Disability and/or Dementia.

For Adults with a Learning Disability, the support is provided on a long-term or “short break” basis. To support these Adults, you will need a spare room in your home. The type of support is very similar to fostering. It is an alternative form of social care.

For Adults with Dementia, the support will be day provision (8am-10pm) with the hours worked based on individual need. You will support the person in your home or to access community events or social activities (taking them to the theatre, cinema, a social group or to a hospital appointment, for example).

Shared Lives Carers are self-employed; meaning that you will not be taxed for most of your income, work from home and can work as and when you want (when offering short breaks or day provision).

You are expected to provide care and support to your matched person; ensuring that you meet their assessed needs whilst offering a person-centred approach at all times.

You need to be willing to allow the person to be involved in your life as you proactively becoming involved in theirs. You will be carefully matched to a supported person with the assessment and approval process taking several months. We provide the necessary training. During training, we assess your values and behaviours and general suitability to the role.

We welcome applicants of any age as well as single people, people from ethnic minorities and our LGBTQ communities. We are a diverse family here at Shared Lives Stoke.
