Summary

The Carroll Centre in Stanmore, Winchester has an exciting opportunity for an experienced level 3+ practitioner to join our wonderful team as a part time Deputy Nursery Manager within our on-site Nursery, Poppins.

The successful candidate will be a passionate and creative practitioner, who will support the setting in achieving the highest standards of nursery education for children aged 2-5 years.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in leading a team and room or setting and comprehensive knowledge of the EYFS Framework.

This role is term time only, three days a week.

Salary: FTE £26,000 per annum (£13,112)

Essential

● 3+ years early years’ experience.
● 1-2+ years management experience
● Good knowledge of child development and children’s needs
● Experience of planning and assessing play opportunities to stimulate children’s development and learning in line with the EYFS curriculum and Ofsted educational guidelines.
● Track record of classroom and behaviour management skills
● Safeguarding and Child protection experience and training
● Ability to work with the Head of Nursery to develop an outstanding provision.
● Ability to deputise for the Head of Nursery.
● Experience in managing, leading and supervising staff.
● Good communication skills with staff and parents.
● Respectful and sympathetic to local community needs
● Willingness to access and learn from supervision and training.
● Ability to make decisions within the limits of the role.
● Good IT & administration skills
● Good presentation skills and ability to be a positive role model for staff.

Desirable

● SENCO and INCO experience
● Knowledge of Hampshire County Council nursery regulations and funding requirements
● Willingness to be involved in whole centre activities.
● Experience with electronic recording/tracking system i.e. EYlog

Qualifications and Education

● NVQ level 3+ Childcare with commitment to CPD
● Good numeracy, literacy and computer skills
● Current & clear DBS & registered for the update service
● Current paediatric first aid certificate

● Experience of supervising and motivating staff

Working conditions

● Working with children under 5 in a classroom setting
● Working with children with special needs, their parents and other agencies
● Working in partnership parents & other agencies that are beneficial for the Nursery, children and staff
● Manual handling of objects up to 5kg weekly
● Working with in office setting with laptop and desktop PC as required
● Using online recording systems
● Using social media for marketing purposes.

Key responsibilities:

1. To work alongside the Head of Nursery to ensure the provision runs effectively.
2. To supervise and manage staff as directed by the Head of Nursery & Centre Operational Manager
3. To manage the provision in the absence of the Head of Nursery
4. To take responsibility for SENCO and INCO and attend relevant training.
5. To help provide a relaxed and happy environment for the children, by planning and providing a choice of activities suitable to their age and stage of development, support children’s development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) and Ofsted Educational Guidelines.
6. To assess and record the progress and attainment of children in accordance with the EYFS Framework.
7. To assist the Head of Nursery to market and promote the nursery, using social media as appropriate.
8. To work as part of the nursery team, delivering services to children under 5 and their families to improve outcomes for the children.
9. To work alongside reception teachers and other preschool providers in training sessions and transition stage periods.
10. To take responsibility for maintaining a healthy, safe environment and ensure children feel protected, safe and secure.
11. To ensure that records i.e., a register, safe collection procedures, incidents, accidents and other occurrences are maintained in accordance with Centre, Hampshire County Council and Ofsted requirements.
12. To ensure that children’s development is monitored through observations and in partnership with parents, providing activities to support their progress.
13. To supervise the set-up and set down of the provision each day.
14. To be a positive role model for children and parents / carers & staff
15. Supervise the display of children’s work, parent’s information board and publicity material.
16. Be willing to access and learn from supervision and training.
17. To follow the organisation’s policies and procedures and maintain high quality, appropriate practice.
18. To undertake any other duties as directed by the Head of Nursery.
