The role:

We are looking for a dedicated Tenancy Relations Officer to join the team and support the prevention and relief of homelessness across the borough and to provide a responsive and proactive service to residents.

This is a complex role requiring you to work with customers, statutory bodies, advocates, and third-sector providers to develop sustainable housing solutions for individuals with multiple needs, such as mental health issues combined with substance misuse.

Reporting to the Team Manager at Housing Solutions, you will play a vital role in reducing the Council’s use of temporary accommodation by delivering timely and effective interventions.



Key Responsibilities:

Prevent and relieve homelessness in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Housing Act 1996 (Parts VI & VII)
Assess and verify housing applications and determine statutory duties owed
Respond swiftly to referrals, including ‘duty to refer’ cases
Develop innovative solutions to homelessness prevention and build relationships with landlords, leaseholders, and external stakeholders
Support outreach initiatives and contribute to service planning and delivery.
Manage complex cases, often involving multiple needs such as mental health and substance misuse
Liaise with clients, councillors, MPs, solicitors and advocates, providing high-quality, customer-focused service
Maintain accurate records to ensure legal compliance and effective performance monitoring
Ensure assessments align with relevant legislation, including the Care Act 2014 and Children Act 1989
Uphold health and safety protocols and information governance standards



What the client is looking for:

Knowledge of Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and Housing Act 1996 (Parts VI & VII)
Knowledge of Deregulation Act 2012, Protection of Eviction Act 1977, Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 and Housing Act 2004
Good understanding of Central London housing issues and an understanding of access to social housing locally
Awareness of issues and initiatives facing local authority housing
Knowledge of relevant Lettings, Homelessness and Housing Act legislation including security of tenure and private tenants’ rights
A good understanding of Local Housing Policy
Experience of effective record keeping including electronically to a high standard
Experience of successfully working to performance targets and deadlines
Excellent interpersonal skills including active listening, advocacy and a win-win approach with all stakeholders
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent customer service skills
