This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic team leading the transformation of bus services throughout Greater Manchester. The Greater Manchester Combined Authority, through TfGM, now controls the bus network including responsibility for service quality, fares, network integration and standards. The role of Head of Bus Engineering is a senior role responsible for the establishment of a new engineering function supporting franchising across GMCA, operator and national standards.
Bus-specific experience is not required we welcome candidates from a range of engineering backgrounds.

Your Role
The Head of Bus Engineering is an opportunity to combine deep engineering expertise while changing the economics and quality of life for millions of people. In this senior leadership role you will be responsible for overseeing the engineering team’s strategic alignment with business objectives and will ensure TfGMs responsibility as asset owner are met. This role fosters innovation, leads a broadly focused bus engineering function and acts as project sponsor for major capital schemes.. This role will be a key partner to senior leadership and act as deputy to the Bus Director as required on technical matters and will guide the technical direction, scaling, and optimisation of engineering operations to support the overall business strategy.
This is hybrid role where you will be expected to work in the office 2 days per week.

This role is ideal for someone with strong engineering expertise, a background in service transformation, and an understanding of the political and operational context of public transport. We’re also looking for somebody with the ability to inspire and empower a high-performing team, with a strong commitment to TfGM’s values.
What we can offer you
This is a permanent role attracting a salary of £87,905 - £98,152 per annum depending on skills and experience
