Summary

Are you passionate about higher education and committed to delivering a high-quality admissions experience? The University of St Andrews is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive individual to join our team as an Education Liaison Officer. In this dynamic role, you will play a vital part in assessing applications, supporting the development and integration of admissions systems, and contributing to the continuous improvement of our processes. You’ll also collaborate with the wider admissions team to organise recruitment events and may have the opportunity to represent the institution at in-person events throughout the year.

The Admissions team at the University of St Andrews comprises 35 staff working in dedicated sub-teams to identify and attract the most academically talented students from across Scotland, the rest of the UK, Europe and overseas.

As an Education Liaison Officer, you’ll take on a varied and rewarding role that will require the roleholder to:
• Review and Assess Applications: Evaluate undergraduate and postgraduate applications in line with institutional admissions criteria, ensuring fair, consistent, and holistic decision-making.
• Make Admissions Recommendations: Formulate clear and well-justified recommendations for offers, rejections, or further review, based on academic qualifications, personal statements, references, and other supporting materials.
• Maintain Consistency and Fairness: Applying admissions policies and procedures consistently across all applications, ensuring equity and transparency in the selection process.
• System Development: The role will assist in the evaluation and implementation of system updates and enhancements, working closely with technical teams to ensure smooth integration and minimal disruption to admissions operations.
• Training: The role will contribute to the development of guidance materials, training resources, and documentation to support consistent application assessment and system use across the team.
• Support Data Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely recording of decisions and applicant data in admissions systems, and assist with producing Admissions number reporting as required.
• Provide Feedback and Insights: Offer feedback on trends, applicant quality, and process improvements to inform future admissions cycles and strategic planning.
• Support Appeals and Enquiries: Assist in responding to applicant queries, appeals, and requests for feedback in a professional and timely manner.
This role offers an agile and varied opportunity within a busy Admissions team, ideal for someone looking to further develop in the higher education admissions application reading and operations area. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the selection of future student cohorts and help shape the academic community. You’ll bring sound judgement, attention to detail, and a commitment to fairness to a role that is central to the admissions process. If you’re ready to apply your skills in a supportive and collaborative environment, we encourage you to apply and be part of our mission to deliver an outstanding applicant experience at the University of St Andrews.
