Summary
The UK Space Agency (UKSA) is an executive agency of the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT) and provides technical advice on the government’s space strategy, supporting the UK space sector to deliver the government’s vision.
Space is a part of everyday life. Satellites underpin our national economy, from agriculture and banking to aviation and shipping, and support our national security. Space science provides critical data to understand and address global challenges such as climate change, while missions to explore our solar system unite nations and advance humanity’s horizons.
We support a thriving space sector in the UK, which generates an annual income of £18.9 billion and employs 52,028 people across the country.
Through our portfolio of programmes and projects, we encourage the development of national space capabilities and are an early-stage investor in space research and development. We also promote the UK space sector’s interests and achievements; make connections to join up industry and academia; and represent the UK in international space programmes.
We have a powerful global voice, partnering with institutions across the world, including the European Space Agency.

The UK Space Agency Technology team covers a wide remit of national and international space technology priorities. This includes working with the European Space Agency and their technology development funding streams. Working across the UK Space Agency on delivering its technology ambitions.
This role sits within the Technology Team reporting to the Industrial Policy Lead and is part of the UK Space Agency Investment Directorate, which supports the development of national and international programmes and missions by creating the best technologies and sub-systems for future implementation.
The National Space Propulsion Test Facility in the Westcott Space Cluster, Buckinghamshire, is the only facility of its kind in the UK and one of only four in the world. Opened in June 2022, it allows companies and academics to test state-of-the-art propulsion engines used to move small satellites in space at a more affordable rate than having to go abroad.
The facility supports the testing of new, more sustainable propellants and is a critical component of the UK space sector growth strategy, driving innovation and development in propulsion technology and supporting the commercial telecommunications satellite market.
General Support Technology Programme (GSTP) is ESA’s flagship technology support and development programme, to which the UK Space Agency committed €83m at the last European Space Agency (ESA) Council of Ministers Meeting in November 2022. The GSTP supports a variety of different projects, including technology development projects.
