The Clinical Transplantation Laboratory provides a comprehensive service for local and national referral centres in support of kidney, cardiothoracic and some of the largest stem cell transplant programmes in the UK, including for the paediatric programmes at GOSH. We perform the full range of H&I services, including HLA-typing, crossmatching and antibody screening services and other immunogenetic testing as an aid to disease diagnosis.

Applicants should have GCSE passes in English and Maths or equivalent, at least one science subject A level or equivalent (BSc in a biological science is desirable) and must have evidence of continuous professional development. Experience of working in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics is desirable. The department provides training opportunities including participation in the BSHI Certificate of Competence training scheme.

The post holder will be required to efficiently and methodically perform diagnostic tests related to Transplantation such as NGS and flow crossmatching. The post holder will maintain paper and electronic records of all such diagnostics tests carried out. The post holder will assist in the day-to-day activities of the laboratory and provide training to staff as required. The post holder will assist in the development and validation of kits, reagents and equipment.

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.

The Pathology Partnership was formed in May 2021. Between 2021 and 2024 the Partnership undertook a complex transformation programme to establish a single network of laboratories, underpinned by a single Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and single Quality Management System (QMS).

The Partnership has a main hub laboratory at the Royal London Hospital and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at the six other hospital sites served by the Partnership.
The Partnership has three operational divisions:
-Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry
-Microbiology and Virology
-Cellular Pathology and Cancer Diagnostics

The 2024/25 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £121m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 860 WTE.
