Summary


This is a fixed term 12months maternity cover for a consultant clinical or forensic psychologist to take on the role of Clinical Lead for Forensic CAMHS at the Portman Clinic (FCAMHS) providing the clinical leadership for the Tier 3 service.

This post is 5 days a week, working from the clinic at the Portman Clinic. The post holder must be available every day to provide clinical support to staff, to cover intake and to attend internal and external meetings as needed.

The post for a consultant level psychologist with expertise in forensic mental health, child and adolescent mental health, youth justice law and practice, and psychoanalytic theoretical training.

The post holder leads and manages a specialist forensic CAMHS service of multidisciplinary professionals as well as having their own clinical case load, weekly intake responsibilities, possible reflective practice facilitation and teaching. Along with the consultant psychiatrist in the team, the post holder is responsible for all leadership of the team and for maintaining the services good reputation through consistency continuity and excellence in service delivery.

The post holder is expected to complete the following responsibilities amongst others: hold a specialist caseload of clients; manage and provide clinical supervision for FCAMHS staff; lead on research design, implementation and presentation activities, such as designing and implementing new projects, support team Quality Improvement projects; preparing and leading on research to produce a research paper each year; be responsible for the entire FCAMHS budget including physical assets; being involved in teaching and lecturing activities, both internally and externally such as bringing teaching on therapies and special areas pertaining to this population.

The Portman FCAMHS team is principally a tertiary referral service for locality CAMHS teams (including CAMHS/YOT link workers) and associated agencies, such as children's social care and inpatient adolescent units. The Portman FCAMHS service model is underpinned by a psychodynamic and attachment based theoretical framework.

The post holder will provide specialist case consultation and formulation, assessment and intervention planning for children and young people referred to FCAMHS by services across NCL and NEL.

The core aim of the service is to support professional networks understand the complex needs of young people who present with significant risks to others, self and from others, adversity and mental health or neurodevelopmental presentations.

The postholder will be required to undertake some direct specialist healthcare assessments when this is warranted by the complexity of the case. The service, however, does not offer direct interventions to young people and their families.

The service is commissioned by The NCEL Provider Collaborative which was NHS England Specialised Commissioning (London Region) in partnership with NHS England Health and Justice (London Region), and forms part of a national network of similar FCAMHS services across the country. The post holder will need to attend, participate and prepare reports for all of the commissioning stakeholders on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
