Summary

Maths Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you a Future Maths Teacher?

This is your first step.

If you’re a Maths graduate with a passion for numbers, logic, and problem-solving — and you’re considering a career in teaching — this is a golden opportunity.

A high-performing secondary school in Islington is seeking a Maths Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their exceptional Maths department from September 2025 for the full academic year. This role is tailor-made for aspiring Maths teachers looking to gain in-school experience before moving onto teacher training or a PGCE.

About the School:

• Community School, based in the heart of Islington

• Outstanding Ofsted rating (2023) across all areas
• GCSE Maths progress score: +0.78 (top 5% nationally)
• 92% of students achieving Grade 5 or above in Maths in 2024
• Inclusive, supportive environment with a proven track record of developing future educators

The school’s Maths department is driven by curiosity, precision, and high standards — and is the ideal environment for a graduate looking to grow.

Your Role:

As a Maths Graduate Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with teachers and students to:

• Deliver 1:1 and small-group interventions to students who need a confidence boost
• Support GCSE students with targeted exam preparation and concept reinforcement
• Assist in planning and resourcing lessons under teacher guidance
• Gain classroom management experience by supporting whole-class learning
• Track student progress and contribute to department-wide strategies for improvement

This is hands-on, meaningful experience — not photocopying and tea-making.

Who We’re Looking For:

• A recent Maths graduate (2:1 or above preferred)
• A strong communicator with a calm, logical presence
• Passionate about education and keen to pursue teacher training in 2026
• Reflective, reliable, and ready to learn on the job
• Some experience working with young people is ideal (e.g. tutoring, mentoring), but not essential

What’s on Offer:

• £25,000 – £28,000 per annum (depending on experience)
• Fixed-term contract for the 2025–26 academic year
• Full-time, Monday to Friday role (term-time only)
• Structured support and mentoring from experienced Maths teachers
• Pathways into salaried teacher training options within the trust

If you’re serious about becoming a Maths teacher and want the experience to match your ambition, Barrow Hill Community School is ready to invest in you.
