Summary

Do you have a strong track record of engineering complex glovebox systems for high-integrity environments?

Are you experienced in delivering robust mechanical solutions that go beyond design – including test, installation and issue resolution?

Looking to take ownership of technically demanding projects where containment, operability and compliance are critical?

The Opportunity A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the end-to-end delivery of glovebox systems and associated mechanical plant. This is a technically hands-on engineering role, where you’ll provide expertise not just in design intent but also in ensuring solutions are fully engineered for performance, manufacturability, compliance and long-term operability. You’ll support active work packages, lead technical input, and play a key role in resolving production, test and commissioning queries.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

- Taking full ownership of engineering work packages relating to glovebox and associated mechanical systems.
- Producing engineering documentation including specifications, analysis, and technical assessments that meet regulatory and operational standards.
- Ensuring that engineered solutions are safe, fit for purpose, and fully integrated with plant layout and supporting systems.
- Working closely with designers to translate engineering intent into deliverables that meet GPS (BS 8888) and configuration standards.
- Supporting resolution of technical queries during manufacture, inspection, testing and installation phases.
- Leading engineering input into layout planning, equipment alignment and interface definition across disciplines.
- Reviewing and validating test documentation for gloveboxes, plant items and integrated system checks.
- Engaging with suppliers to resolve technical issues and ensure conformity to specification.
- Managing change control and ensuring that design modifications align with configuration and safety case requirements.
- Supporting compliance with CDM, PUWER, SoMSR and other relevant engineering regulations.

You will have the following qualifications and experience

- Proven engineering experience with glovebox systems or high-integrity containment equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of plant design, installation and test principles within regulated environments.
- Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor and Vault (Basic or Pro) for supporting design data review and interface checks.
- Experience applying BS 8888 and GPS tolerancing in the context of mechanical engineering and production.
- Demonstrable capability in resolving technical issues during manufacture, inspection or commissioning phases.
