Pay Rate: £34 per hour

Politics Lecturer - Tower Hamlets, East London

We are recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded sixth form and FE provider in Tower Hamlets for a part-time Politics Lecturer to deliver A Level Politics from September 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for a subject specialist looking to engage students in contemporary political thought, government systems, and global affairs on a flexible schedule (0.4 FTE).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver A Level Politics lessons in line with AQA or Edexcel curriculum specifications
  • Teach key modules such as UK Government & Politics, Political Ideologies, and Comparative Politics (UK/US focus)
  • Encourage critical debate, analysis, and independent thinking within the classroom
  • Plan and prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning resources
  • Support learners in exam preparation and coursework submission
  • Track and assess student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback
  • Contribute to departmental development and attend meetings where appropriate
  • Assist students with UCAS applications and subject-specific academic guidance
  • Promote an inclusive, engaging, and academically challenging environment

Essential Criteria:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one
  • A degree in Politics, International Relations, or a related discipline
  • Experience teaching A Level Politics in a sixth form, FE, or post-16 setting
  • Strong awareness of UK and global political systems, ideologies, and current affairs
  • Excellent communication, classroom management, and planning skills
  • Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain one)

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience with AQA or Edexcel exam boards
  • Familiarity with digital teaching tools such as Microsoft Teams, Moodle, or Google Classroom
  • Involvement in extracurricular or enrichment activities (e.g., debate clubs, Model UN)
