Full Time – 37.5 hours per week.
Shift patterns vary for an 8-hour period and are flexible.
Salary £26,000
- £34,000 depending on experience plus Serco benefits. On call generous allowance plus Serco benefits. AP Duty holder payments.Serco are recruiting for a Mechanical Craftsperson to join the team at Great Western Hospital. This role is to provide safe and efficient maintenance of the mechanical services and equipment within the hospital as directed by Estates Supervisors and Management.
Main Accountabilities:
· To carry out reactive repairs, fault finding and maintenance to a wide range of Services within all areas of the Hospital as directed by Supervisors or Managers.
· To carry out Planned Preventive Maintenance to a wide range of equipment.
· To work in accordance with all relevant Serco Policies & Procedures, Workplace Regulations and Best Practice Guidelines
· To take a proactive approach to the development and review of Health & Safety systems, work instructions and working practices
· To always work in a safe and responsible manner with full regard for own and other’s safety.
· To attend work in compliance with the Computerised Time & Attendance System.
· To use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
· To be prepared to attend work or work beyond expected finishing time in exceptional circumstances, as requested by Supervisors or Managers.
· Communicate to Supervisors or Managers unrepaired faults or defects or requirements for Spare Parts.
· To attend on-site and off-site training as required.
· Optional Authorised Person Duties which could include but not limited to Pressure systems, Legionella RP, Ventilation, Medical Gas (All training will be provided). Additional pay uplifts.
· Be part of an on call rota, with shift and weekend covering with additional pay uplifts.

What you’ll need to do the role:
Completion of a recognised appropriate Mechanical Apprenticeship or other relevant structured Training Program. Time served or experienced level of skill in mechanical services, plumbing and maintenance in a hospital or similar environment.

· Level 2 NVQ
· Level 2 National/Diploma Certificate
· Time served experience
· Knowledge and understanding of Mechanical Building Services
· Good communication and customer service skills
· Shift, on call and weekend rota.

· Mechanical to Electrical Conversion
· L8 Training
· HTM 02 Medical Gas CP Training
· HTM 03 Ventilation CP Training
· HTM 04 Water hygiene CP Training

Additional special features of the role
· Authorised Person Duties Paid at £1000 per role PA, up to 3 duties paid at maximum £2,500 PA additional to salary.
· Standby allowance when on call £ TBA
· Weekend uplifts with additional rest days
· On the job training
