Summary
We're recruiting a proactive and detail-oriented Accountancy Assistant to support the financial operations of a highly respected public sector organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the delivery of vital services across our community, by helping ensure accurate financial management, reporting, and controls.
This is a fixed-term contract for 6 months, with hybrid working (3 days in the office, 2 from home) and flexible start and finish times to support a healthy work-life balance.
About the Role:You'll play an integral part in maintaining financial systems, supporting budget holders, preparing cash flow reports, and handling reconciliations. The role also includes involvement in VAT returns, managing procurement card systems, supporting audits, and contributing to process improvements.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting daily banking arrangements and fraud prevention
- Reconciling weekly/monthly financial data for reporting accuracy
- Preparing forecasts, VAT returns, and treasury reports
- Administering procurement card activity and training system users
- Assisting with internal/external audits and year-end closure
- Acting as a key contact for finance queries and stakeholder support
What We're Looking For:
- AAT qualified (or equivalent)
- Experience in financial accounting and reconciliations
- Strong understanding of financial systems and VAT regulations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and finance platforms
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks independently
Desirable:
- Experience in public sector finance or emergency services
- Knowledge of grant funding and compliance practices
