The Trauma and Orthopaedic Department based at St Mary’s Hospital is looking to recruit a Specialty Doctor for an initial period of twelve months, to be reviewed. We are looking for a highly motivated doctor to join the middle grade on-call rota for Trauma.

We are seeking engaged and enthusiastic individuals who want to join us on our improvement journey. You will be committed to upholding our Trust values. In return, you will join a friendly multidisciplinary team, delivering compassionate care to our island residents and visitors. We will invest in you as an individual and in your future professional development.

This is a unique opportunity to combine a challenging and rewarding role in an environment that offers excellent quality of life and a healthy work-life balance. The Isle of Wight has world-class sailing facilities and beautiful beaches; most of the Island is semi-rural with miles of unspoilt bridleways through National Trust woods and chalk down land, offering spectacular coastal walks in areas of outstanding natural beauty. There are also rapid and frequent ferry/rail links with Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington (London can be reached in 90 minutes).

Please direct enquiries to Mr Daniel Gheorghiu, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Clinical Lead for Trauma & Orthopaedics via emaild.gheorghiu@nhs.net.Informal visits are welcomed.

The successful candidate will work alongside one or two consultants in the department and will be exposed to a wide range of elective and trauma surgery. The department is actively involved in audit and research and there are opportunities for the post holder to be involved in both.

The post holder will be expected to participate in a non-resident 1:7 on call commitment, essential to support the junior staff.

The Orthopaedic Department provides an integrated Orthopaedic and Trauma service and has facilities which include: elective and trauma wards for in-patient care, day-case unit, two Trauma & Orthopaedic theatres, designated Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, x-ray and out-patient suite.

Working for our Trust brings a variety of benefits, including an onsite day nursery, cycle-to-work scheme, discounts at local businesses and gyms, and the opportunity to hire Trust’s beach hut in Ryde. We offer many flexible working opportunities, speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement for you and if it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

The Isle of Wight is a unique and stunning gem located off the South Coast of England, a short ferry journey from Portsmouth and Southampton, with journey times taking from as little as 10 minutes. London can be reached in 90 minutes by rail from Southampton or Portsmouth. The island offers an amazing coastline with beautiful countryside, year-round events, festivals and award-winning attractions.

To assist in the provision of a comprehensive orthopaedic and trauma service under the supervision of your designated consultant(s).
To participate in the day-to-day management of orthopaedic and trauma patient.
To undertake theatre lists and clinics as required. There are opportunities to undertake own lists depending on your own experience and ability.
To participate in the middle grade emergency 1:7 on-call rota with prospective cover for leave.
