DWP. Digital with Purpose.
DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work, and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
We are looking for a Data Governance Manager to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital. We're driving a once-in-a-generation transformation of government services.
We're using fresh ideas and leading-edge technologies to build and maintain innovative, scalable and user-centric digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, at key moments in their lives.
The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.
Delivery. Work. Projects.
As a Data Governance Manager in DWP's Chief Data Office (CDO), you'll be joining a team that's right at the heart of how we use data to make better decisions, shape policy, and improve services for millions of people.
Data plays a huge role in everything we do at DWP, from day-to-day operations to long-term planning. The CDO is leading the way in how we manage and make the most of that data, and with the rollout of our five-year Data Strategy and a new Hub and Spoke model, it's a great time to get involved.
You'll help put the strategy into action. That means supporting the design and use of our Data Governance Framework, updating policies, and working with governance boards.
You'll also help roll out our Data Ownership and Stewardship model, and support teams across the department with data quality, protection, and ethics-especially as we explore how AI fits into the picture.
You'll be working closely with colleagues across DWP and other government departments, expertly balancing different priorities and helping make sure data is shared and used responsibly.
There's a strong focus on collaboration, and you'll have plenty of opportunities to build your skills, whether through hands-on experience, soft skills development, or formal qualifications.
What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?
- You'll bring hands-on experience in data governance, with a practical approach to putting policies into action and a solid understanding of data protection laws.
- You'll advise on governance standards and approaches, helping set direction, build strong networks, and work closely with teams and stakeholders across the organisation.
- You'll communicate technical concepts clearly and confidently, making sure non-technical audiences can understand and engage with the information.
- You'll handle complex and sometimes unclear situations with a calm, analytical mindset, spotting key issues, solving problems, and helping report data risks effectively.
- You'll work within a strategic context, using strong interpersonal skills to show how your work supports wider goals and contributes to shaping policy and direction.
Details. Wages. Perks.
You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.
We also have all the tools and tech we need to enable our people to work and collaborate flexibly. We work a hybrid model - you'll be in the office about 40% of the time, and 60% home working.
We offer competitive pay of up to £45,081.
You'll also get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth over 28.9%, and a generous leave package starting at 26 days.
You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time.
We have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:
- An award-winning environment and culture: Employer of the Year 2023 (Women In IT Awards), Founders Award for Outstanding Digital Leadership 2023 (Digital 100)
- Flexible working including flexible hours and family-friendly policies
- Time off volunteering and charitable giving
- Bring your authentic self to work with 'I Can Be Me in DWP'
