Education and Skills - Building Bright Futures

We are on the lookout for an Employment and Skills Officer to join the Swindon & Wiltshire Careers Hub, within our Employment and Skills service.

The Employment and Skills service is committed to supporting Wiltshire’s citizens to engage in education, employment and training across a variety of programmes and activities. In the Careers Hub, we work closely with schools, colleges and employers to create opportunities for young people to find their best next step after school/college, with a focus on increasing social inclusion and reducing disadvantages. With a key focus on expanding the skills within our local workforce, we work to improve the quality of careers education, information, advice and guidance available to young people across Swindon and Wiltshire.

As an Employment and Skills Officer, you will manage a caseload of schools and colleges, developing relationships with Careers Leaders and enabling them to improve their careers provision through CPD, employer connections, and access to resources from across the Hub network and nationally. You will need to build connections with local employers, supporting them to develop and improve their outreach offer to schools and colleges (including work experience). You will also lead on specific projects to develop a diverse, highly skilled and competitive workforce in Swindon and Wiltshire, to meet the needs of current and future employers.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining expertise and understanding of national and legislative requirements for Employment and Skills – particularly relating to employer encounters and work experience. You will also lead on facilitating work experience initiatives through active, positive engagement with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Our ideal candidate will possess a degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline. You will also have a minimum of 3 years proven experience working within education, economic development or employment and skills. Essential qualities include high level communication and presentation skills, strong analytical skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of an organisation. Experience of running events and managing volunteer networks will support your success in this role.

This role will involve travel across Swindon and Wiltshire, so the successful candidate will be allocated a base site of Chippenham, Trowbridge or Salisbury – to be discussed at interview.
