Summary
Take blood from patients ACF or Dorsal veins being mindful of the potential harm from bruising, hematomas, nerve injury and incorrect diagnosis or treatment that can result from poor practice. Patients may be on wards, in outpatients, community clinics from children to adults inclusive of patients receiving end of life care. Show empathy and an understanding for patients and work to meet the individual needs of the patients in OPD, ward areas recognizing challenges such as dementia, children, anxiety, physical and mental disabilities. Demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients calmly and politely even under stressful circumstances, deal with patients while maintaining confidentiality. Carry out safe methods of disposal of sharps, contaminated waste, general waste and confidential documents. Ensure samples sent to the laboratory are suitable for analytical/therapeutic or diagnostic testing by meeting all the pre and post analytical criteria. Work as part of a team and when required alone.
