Role Summary We are seeking a highly competent and experienced Sessional GP to support our Urgent Care Centre, as part of the Berkshire West Primary Care Alliance (PCA). The post holder will be responsible for delivering clinical assessment, treatment, and care for patients requiring urgent but non-emergency medical attention. Working autonomously, you will ensure a safe, efficient, and high-quality clinical service. You will collaborate closely with the Clinical Lead, Service Manager and Chief Operating Officer, as well as forming links with secondary care and primary care colleagues across the wider healthcare community. The role may also involve working with clinicians from other providers such as Westcall and includes the opportunity to develop clinical leadership experience. 2. Main Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Duties Provide clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment plans for patients. Refer patients to appropriate services, including emergency departments, in accordance with agreed clinical pathways. Conduct consultations via telephone, video, or face-to-face as appropriate to the patient pathway. Ensure smooth patient flow within a high-demand, fast-paced service. Deliver emergency care while awaiting ambulance transfer, where necessary. Provide clinical advice and support to colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team. Service Communication and Collaboration Work as part of a team including GPs, nurses, paramedics, service leads, and non-clinical staff. Liaise with secondary care specialists (e.g. radiology, pathology) and emergency departments. Collaborate with partner organisations such as Royal Berkshire Hospital (RBH) and Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust (BHFT). Service Development and Governance Work with the Clinical Lead and Service Delivery Officer to support ongoing service development. Escalate and address governance issues as they arise. Participate in audits, training, complaint reviews, surveys, and service evaluations to ensure continual improvement. Uphold high clinical standards and comply with all standard operating procedures and organisational policies. 3. Person Specification Qualifications and Experience Essential GMC-registered GP with a valid NHS performers list (no restrictions). MRCGP (or equivalent experience). Strong skills in clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of acute presentations. Able to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure. Experience in primary care; familiarity with the Berkshire West area is preferable. Must be able to pass an enhanced DBS check. Must have the right to work in the UK. Digital Competency Proficient in the use of EMIS clinical system. Willingness to use ADASTRA (training will be provided if needed). Comfortable using Accurx and Docman. Sound understanding of QOF, LCS, DES, CQUINs, and the use of accurate clinical coding.
