WARD HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT
One Hatfield Hospital has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Ward Healthcare Assistant to join our incredible Wards team.
Reporting to the Ward Manager, the successful Ward Healthcare Assistant will be able to assist the qualified nurses to provide a high standard of care for all patients during their admission/visit to One Hatfield Hospital.
You will follow hospital policy and national guidelines to ensure care and safety.
WORKING HOURS: 32.5 per week Mon-Sun Shift Pattern.
ONE HATFIELD HOSPITAL
WARD HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Support RGNs in the implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient
o Help promote and maintain a caring, supportive environment focused on meeting the needs of the patient/relatives/carer, working collaboratively with other departments to achieve this
o Look after the physical comfort of patients, for example helping them with activities of daily living.
o Take basic observations such as blood pressure and temperature, height and weight, utilising the early warning score system as per hospital policy and escalate appropriately to the trained nurse
o Listen and talk to patients, helping them to feel supported and safe
o Assist with keeping the department clean and tidy, for example cleaning of equipment, adhering to infection prevention and control policy and hospital procedures at all times
o Keep supplies and equipment in order, assisting in the maintenance of stock levels
o Maintain contemporaneous patient records including patient pathways and the relevant IT reporting systems are up-to-date and accurate ensuring countersigned by a trained nurse.
o Chaperone when required
o Participate in basic wound care management as required
o Deal with any patient/relative complaints at the time if possible however escalate to appropriate member of staff if need be
o Report complaints, compliments and untoward incidents via Datix as per hospital policy
WARD HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT
QUALIFICATIONS
o Minimum G.C.S.E. education or equivalent
o NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent preferred
EXPERIENCE
o Ability to learn and develop
o Some health care experience in a hospital environment
SKILLS
o Caring, patient and customer focused
o Basic computer skills
o Comprehensive written and verbal communication skills
DESIRABLES
o Experience in the private sector
o Competence in the following areas: phlebotomy, venapuncture and undertaking ECGs
o Enthusiasm for cross functional working within different departments
