About the Contract – Derwentside IRC
Derwentside IRC is a fully contained residential facility housing adult women. We are committed to upholding decency and respect in all aspects of care for our residents and are continuously seeking new and innovative ways to improve and develop our service.
Serco took over the management of Derwentside IRC in September 2023. As a global provider of public services, Serco delivers essential services in areas such as health, education, defence, transport, and justice. At Derwentside, we deliver services on behalf of Home Office Immigration Enforcement (HOIE), ensuring the highest standards of care and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
As an Electrician Grade 1, your responsibilities will include:

- Carrying out reactive and planned maintenance on all electrical systems and low-voltage plant and equipment.
- Diagnosing faults and completing effective repairs to ensure minimal disruption.
- Installing new plant and electrical apparatus as required.
- Supporting other members of the FM team with multi-trade tasks when needed.
- Ensuring all work is conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with statutory and company regulations.
- Participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota, for which an additional payment is provided.
- Maintaining accurate documentation of inspections, maintenance work, and system performance.

Required Qualifications and Experience

- Completion of a recognised electrical trade apprenticeship.
- City & Guilds Electrical Certificate or equivalent trade qualification.
- Qualified to BS7671 (current edition of the IEE wiring regulations).
- At least five years of relevant post-apprenticeship trade experience.
- Ability to read and understand technical and wiring diagrams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience with databases.
- Knowledge of fire protection systems, security systems, and associated British Standards such as BS5839 and BS EN 50131/32/33.
- Experience within a similar facilities management or secure environment is advantageous.
