Summary
We’re looking for a kind, proactive Personal Assistant (PA) to support Joey, a fun and active 10-year-old, with a range of activities and outings. This is a new PA role for the family, so some flexibility and openness is appreciated.
The role includes:
• Taking Joey on trips out to places like farms, parks, leisure centres, or nature walks
• Support with dressing, personal care, and mealtimes as needed
• Helping Joey engage in fun, social and sensory activities (crafts, swimming, shopping, visits to family, etc.), with close supervision to support his needs and safety
• Encouragement and supervision during activities at home and out in the community
• Supporting communication using Makaton (Joey is almost non-verbal), and ensuring his safety due to his lack of danger awareness
Key details:
• 6 hours per week, ideally split between weekday afternoons (between 2–6pm) and some weekend hours (between 9am–6pm)
• A driving licence and own vehicle is preferred (fuel costs reimbursed at 45p/mile)
• Support required during school holidays and on a flexible/ad-hoc basis with occasional short-notice availability
Joey is a lovely young boy, and this role is ideal for someone patient, warm, and enthusiastic who enjoys helping children thrive through fun and structure. Previous experience supporting children with additional needs (such as Down Syndrome, ADHD or autism) would be especially valuable, as Joey can be challenging at times and needs supervision to stay safe.
The family has a friendly golden retriever, and Joey loves animals — so ideally, you’ll be comfortable around pets (and stopping to say hello to them!).
