Summary

The Children’s Integrated Speech and Language Therapy Service for Hackney and the City is a unique partnership between health and education. The resultant service works across Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Hackney Education and has grown into a large and dynamic team that delivers innovative models of working. It is a welcoming, fun and supportive place to work. With well-established clinical supervision and access to CPD it is a great place to make the move and become a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist.

The service employs over 100 staff and so opportunities arise frequently and staff are deployed flexibly to meet changing need. As well as working as a link Speech and Language Therapist to schools, we offer opportunities for band 6 staff to be involved in project work. This can be linked to an area of interest or clinical expertise or a wider service development project. Where appropriate the post holder can access CPD and relevant training to support them to carry out their project.

The service has developed the largest and most comprehensive traded services offer in the UK, and as a result attracts a high percentage of direct school funding. School commissions are on an annual basis and as a result these staff contracts are also. The service has successfully secured contracts in some schools in neighbouring boroughs.

We aim to do the interviews as close to the end of August as possible, usually online.

The post on offer will be mainly based within our traded service with Secondary Schools, but may also include opportunities with Primary and/or Post 16 settings.

The combination will be dependent on interest and experience and can be discussed at interview.

As such we are looking for a passionate therapist who wants to understand and advocate for SLCN within the adolescent cohort and be part of a dynamic, supportive and creative group of likeminded therapists in the same clinical area.

The post is advertised as fixed term until August 2026 inline with our school traded service contracts. We renew contracts each academic year and have had a very considerable (!) history of renewal. Despite this we still always have to put out our schools' roles as FTCs initially, so please do contact us if you would like to discuss this.

Posts are based on 37.5 hours a week. We embrace flexible working and will consider part-time/term-time only.

In conjunction with families the post holder will assess, where possible within their first language, and diagnose children with a range of SLCN They will contribute to the multi-professional assessment of children and young people with language and communication, and in some posts eating and drinking needs.
They will plan/implement specialist programmes of support/intervention for these children and young people as part of the MDT
