About you:
We have exciting opportunity to work as a Planning Officer in our Development Management team. This is a chance for someone who has a passion for planning to get involved in shaping our city, which is consistently rated as one of the best places to live, work, and study in the UK. We're seeking a knowledgeable and skilled professional, preferably with a degree in Town and Country Planning, Architecture, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate will have experience working in the planning field and an understanding of a variety of planning issues. You should possess skills in communicating with varied audiences, be able to manage a caseload of applications, and have a commitment to delivering high-quality development while helping to conserve our city's heritage and green spaces. Strong organisational skills, an ability to work under pressure, and a flexible approach to work are key to this role.
About the role:
As a Planning Officer, you'll play a pivotal role in managing a caseload of planning applications, including householder proposals, Lawful Development Certificates and minor development proposals. These will require taking into account the planning challenges for the city, such as protecting our city's heritage assets and attractive green spaces, whilst driving quality outcomes that enhance Exeter's special character.
You'll be providing advice and guidance to our customers, managing appeals (written or via via Informal Hearing) and helping investigate unauthorised works. The role will involve presenting schemes to councillors in an informal setting, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes.
Beyond the day-to-day casework, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to policy development that will shape Exeter's future. You will be working closely with the city's large Development Management team, as well as a team of specialists in :- Urban Design, Historic buildings, Archaeology, Ecology and Trees. You'll be part of a collaborative environment that values expertise, passion, and a commitment to public service.
