Summary and purpose of position:

We are recruiting for a Regional Petroleum Specialist to join our team, this role will be predominantly based in the South, Stanwell (TW19), with some national travel. The department is responsible for delivering and managing DCPC driver training, PDP, on the road assessments & driver development plans, including the delivery of Wincanton Drivers cor induction. The role will be working with all Wincanton Petroleum contracts across the South to ensure their training requirements are delivered and drivers are safe and compliant utilising all data provided by Wincanton systems to deliver targeted training in a timely manner.

Regional Petroleum Driver Trainer – Monday to Friday

Join our team as a Regional Petroleum Driver Trainer and enjoy the benefits of a Monday to Friday schedule with the autonomy to plan your own calendar. Primarily based in the South with some national travel, you’ll play a key role in driver development across our Petroleum contracts.

In this role, you’ll deliver DCPC training, Petroleum Driver Passport (PDP) assessments, on-the-road evaluations, and driver development plans—including our Wincanton Driver Core Induction program. You’ll ensure all driver training requirements are met and that drivers operate safely and compliantly, using data-driven insights from Wincanton systems to deliver timely and effective training interventions.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Work with all petroleum contracts across the region to ensure compliance throughout as required by both legislation and customer procedures.
  • Deliver engaging DCPC and PDP training in line with Wincanton quality standards.
  • Conduct on road pre-employment, temporary worker, annual, post-accident, return to work and performance failings driver assessments in line with Wincanton policy’s and standards.
  • Interrogate data at regular intervals to identify drivers requiring additional support.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and advice to H&S professionals to aid compilation of SSoW.
  • Deliver practical training of all SSoW and refresher training after an appropriate period of time.
  • Support the Quality Assurance team reviewing current training materials and developing new materials.
  • Plan and deliver classroom and practical training sessions for familiarisation of new or in-service equipment.
  • Providing guidance and training on safety matters for managers and supervisors.
  • Monitoring with operations driver performance through use of telemetry.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on telematics system fitted to vehicle.
  • Ownership of drivers training records on Vantage Driver Passport.
  • Attend relevant CPD courses and carry out personal research and reading to keep up to date with legal, industry, and Company trends and requirements.

Typical Outputs:

  • Safe and compliant drivers across all petroleum contracts.
  • Training requirements delivered to all petroleum contracts in time and efficiently.

Experience, skills and attributes:

  • Must have LGV C+E license and ADR classes 2 & 3.
  • Hold a L3 Award in Education and Training or above (or equivalent).
  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience in working in UK downstream oil industry.
  • Experience in forecourt and bulk deliveries essential.
  • In depth knowledge of ACOP L133 and DSEAR.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Have a working knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of a trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of the learners.
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to develop teaching and training material using the appropriate resources to support effective learning.
  • Understand and have a working knowledge of the Goods Vehicle Operator License undertakings for the UK.
  • Be able to articulate, check, and challenge EC Driver and Working Time legislation requirements and means of managing.
  • IT literate including experience of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Work confidentially, and with integrity, reporting all issues regardless as to working relationships, without fear or favour.
  • Prioritisation and delegation skills.
  • International Transport Manager CPC (or equivalent) is desirable.
