Working Hours:
• Monday to Thursday: 08:00–17:00
• Friday: 08:00–14:00

Overview

We are currently recruiting for a hands-on and proactive Press Brake Team Leader to join a well-established and fast-growing engineering business, specialising in the design, manufacture, and installation of fully bespoke factory automation systems. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a skilled fabrication team while remaining actively involved in high-spec sheet metal work.

This role will suit a confident and experienced press brake operator who thrives in a leadership capacity. You will play a pivotal role within our fabrication division, working closely with design, production, and project management teams to deliver high-quality metal components for complex automation projects.

Based in a fully equipped and modern fabrication workshop, you will be working with a range of advanced machinery and tools, including:

  • 3.2m x 125T Press Brake


  • 3kW Fibre Laser


  • CNC Milling Machines


  • Manual Lathe


  • TIG & MIG Welding Bays


    You will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing workflow, ensuring quality control, and driving a culture of continuous improvement within the team.

    Key Responsibilities

    Press Brake Operation & Fabrication

    • Operate and take full ownership of the press brake, from job setup through to final production


    • Program and adjust settings in accordance with job specifications and technical drawings


    • Produce accurate and high-quality parts to tight tolerances


    • Inspect and maintain press brake tooling and equipment


    • Maintain clear records of job progress and materials used


      Team Leadership

      • Supervise, support, and coordinate a small team of fabricators


      • Provide hands-on guidance and mentorship to junior team members


      • Allocate tasks based on team strengths, deadlines, and technical complexity


      • Ensure the team adheres to safety, quality, and production standards


      • Assist with staff scheduling, holiday coordination, and absence monitoring


        Workshop Organisation & Planning

        • Plan workload and job prioritisation to meet deadlines and production targets


        • Liaise with design engineers and project managers to coordinate fabrication requirements


        • Maintain workshop cleanliness, organisation, and tool control


        • Encourage best practices, including adherence to 5S and lean manufacturing principles


          Material & Stock Control

          • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, consumables, and tooling


          • Raise purchase requests and work with procurement to ensure timely stock replenishment


          • Maintain an efficient and cost-effective approach to stock usage


          • Identify opportunities to reduce material waste and improve supplier relationships


            Essential Skills & Experience
            • Proven background in operating and programming press brake machinery


            • Strong experience in a fabrication or metalworking environment


            • Previous experience leading a small team or acting in a senior role within a workshop


            • Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering and technical drawings


            • Comfortable managing workload and job tracking using internal systems


            • Self-driven, reliable, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively


            • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering consistent quality


            • Full UK driving licence and access to personal transport (both sites are not served by public transport)


            • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English


              Desirable Skills (Not Essential)
              • Welding experience – particularly MIG and/or TIG


              • Familiarity with CNC machinery or fibre laser cutting operations


              • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, or 5S workshop principles


              • Experience in ordering materials or managing stock systems


              • Basic understanding of health and safety legislation relevant to metal fabrication
