Summary
The Science, Technology, Research and Analysis (STAR) Group sits at the heart of the Home Office. The group ensures the best evidence and analysis are used to address the strategic issues facing the department. We also provide the science, technology, data, and international insights and collaboration capabilities to drive delivery.
You will be part of the Protection and Enforcement Analysis and Insight (PEAI) Unit within Home Office Analysis and Insight (HOAI). The unit brings together operational and policy analysts to deliver and transform evidence-based insights into policy change impacts for displaced, vulnerable and/or undocumented individuals, improving system efficiency and delivering Government commitments to uphold our immigration laws whilst providing safe and legal routes for those in need of protection.
This is an exciting time to be working in immigration, and in particular irregular migration, driving new cross-Government policy development. We have seen increased demand for analysis to support this area and therefore are looking to increase our capacity and modelling capability.
In this role you will join an existing team, working to understand and model the flow of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASCs) through the asylum system. This is a high-profile area that regularly attracts interest from Ministers and external stakeholders and will require flexibility from the post holder to meet the range of varying demands.
Post holders will need to develop relationships across the UASC system and develop a strong understanding of the complexities of the system. You will then need to communicate your analysis, in a way that is digestible to stakeholders with differing backgrounds from across the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, with support from line management, the provision of ad-hoc analysis in the UASC space. This will include scoping and delivering new analytical requirements, working with existing models and supporting other team members.
- Work closely with policy, operational and other stakeholders in the Home Office as well as external stakeholders in other government departments. Working with local authorities may also be required.
- Manage multiple analytical projects simultaneously including both high priority discrete tasks and longer-term projects.
- Build a detailed understanding of the UASC system including of new and developing policy areas.
- Support other modelling both within the UASC team and within the wider asylum analysis team as required.
Working pattern
This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 4 days per week due to business requirements.
Travel
Occasional travel may be required to other Home Office sites within the UK.
