Summary

As an NHS employee the role provides a comprehensive physical health service as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team to prisoners with physical health needs within the prison environment. As Part of a Team the role delivers a comprehensive Primary Health Service in partnership with G4S, GPs, Secondary Care Mental Health, and Third Sector parties. All key stakeholders in the care provision as part of a multidisciplinary team within the prison setting. This role involves undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments, performing diagnostic tests, whilst providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to meet prisoner health and social care needs. The post holder will be required to work flexibly across the service, providing responsive, evidence-based interventions, working alongside physical and mental health clinical teams as well as Prison Staff. The postholder will be part of a NHS team that provides primary care within a prison, preventing transfer to outside hospitals. They will demonstrate knowledge, skills and understanding of health issues and treatment options and have a keen interest in developing knowledge and skills across the integrated services. The position offers support in the delivery of a comprehensive nursing service including chronic disease management, public health nursing and first contact nursing in prison premises and in cell care to coordinate the care needs of patients. The post holder will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, providing nurse leadership as required. The post holder will have the freedom to act within established parameters, where work is managed rather than supervised. The post holder is required to act independently within Health Board and professional guidelines, referring to supervisory management and support when required.
