Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Burnley Council’s Building Control Service as a Trainee Registered Building Inspector. This career graded position offers the right candidate the scope to progress to become a Registered Building Inspector. On completion of your training programme, you will be responsible for ensuring that developments within Burnley and Padiham (domestic projects under 7.5m high), comply with all the functional requirements of the Building Regulations. You will also be responsible for assessing dangerous structures including taking action to remove any dangers to the public using sections 77 or 78 of the Building Act 1984.

You will gain structured on and off-site experience in dealing with domestic developments and will be required to attend all parts of an agreed building control surveying academic training programme in order to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of a competent public service Registered Building Inspector.

You will also assist the technical support officer in processing applications, developing procedures and taking payments for Building Regulation applications. Moving through the career grade is dependant on meeting the relevant criteria for the grade.

It is essential you have the ability and willingness to work towards a CIOB Level 4 Diploma in Building Control Surveying and are willing and able to obtain Class 2A Registered Building Inspector status through the Building Safety Regulator. You must have a full clean driving licence.

You must have experience of dealing with customers and be able to deal effectively with challenging situations. It is essential you are able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team and have the ability to maintain accurate computerised records and filing systems.

Burnley is a thriving market town surrounded by breath-taking Pennine countryside, with excellent transport links around the region, including a direct train line to Manchester.

If working in a busy building control section with a varied workload and a track record for developing Building Surveyors appeals to you then we can offer you a diverse and interesting challenge that will support your ambitions. We value our employees and offer a generous pension scheme, holiday entitlement and work/life balance initiatives.
