Summary

Job Description

To manage, develop, promote and deliver adult and family learning opportunities (Including adult literacies) within Moray, with particular reference to the principles of Adult Learning, the Scottish Government’s and Moray Council’s policies of social inclusion and active citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • To act as the senior practitioner of the Adult and Family Learning Team and to lead on the development, promotion and management of quality adult and family learning opportunities based on identified local needs.
  • Ensure that the team is able to develop, deliver and evaluate adult and family learning opportunities, including accredited opportunities, within group settings and 1:1, online and face to face
  • Oversee recruitment, training and support of volunteers with the Adult & Family Learning team
  • Establish, develop and maintain effective partnerships with local and Moray-wide adult learning providers and to represent the service at regional and national Adult and Family Learning sector meetings as required.
  • Implement Quality Assurance within the team creating a continuous improvement culture.
  • Undertake other duties as required.

The Individual

  • Extensive and varied experience of adult and family learning with communities.
  • A good understanding of current initiatives, policies and good practice in relation to Adult and Family Learning.
  • Experience in effective partnership working both strategically and in communities.
  • Relevant experience of accredited learning for adults
  • Ability and experience to create resources including digital
  • High level of ICT skills; office applications, social media, interactive tools and online platforms
  • Degree, Diploma or Post Graduate Certificate in Community Learning & Development or equivalent qualification and experience.
  • Flexible, adaptable and highly motivated.
  • Proven ability to prioritise workload.
  • Able to use own judgement and initiative within agreed policies and procedures.
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills written, digital and oral.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Good knowledge of adult learning theory and practice and ability to cascade this within the Adult and Family Learning team.
  • Able to support and motivate colleagues and to create a positive working environment.
  • You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the service. Due to the rural nature of Moray, this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van.
  • A supportive and person centred approach with a focus on getting the best out of people.
  • Ability to relate to people from all backgrounds and life experiences.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to equality and equity at all times.
  • Appreciation, acceptance and commitment to the importance of confidentiality
  • Must be able to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service.
  • Ability to work in different offices dependent on service requirements including working from home.

This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by Moray Council.
