The Role
You'll support the HR Manager, HR Business Partner, and wider HR team in cultivating a positive, inclusive workplace. You'll provide practical guidance and advice to managers and colleagues across the college, manage employee relation issues in line with legislation and best practice, and act as a trusted partner in driving a culture of fairness, wellbeing, and engagement
Key Responsibilities:
· Champion the college's vision, mission, values and strategic objectives in all activities.
· Represent the college professionally in interactions with external agencies (e.g., other institutions, funding bodies, employers, parents, learners).
· Actively promote the college and its subsidiaries as a first-choice destination for students, staff and stakeholders.
· Lead initiatives to foster equality, diversity, inclusion, wellbeing and safety across the organisation.
Employment Relations:
· Provide expert advice and guidance on day‑to‑day HR issues, including performance, absence, conduct, grievances and capability, in line with current UK employment law.
· Lead and support investigations, disciplinary hearings, grievances, and appeals - including note‑taking, case preparation, and decision-making support.
· Advise on complex HR processes, including TUPE transfers, redundancy and restructuring.
· Coach and upskill managers in employee relations, guiding them through performance and conduct matters using a consistent, legally compliant approach.
Employee Engagement
· Actively foster an inclusive environment, celebrating diversity and embedding your commitment to equality through day-to-day actions.
· Recognise and celebrate successes, milestones and long‑service achievements.
· Support employee engagement initiatives, performance appraisal cycles and talent management programs.
· Play a pivotal role in promoting employee wellbeing and welfare initiatives.
Learning and Development
· Help coordinate cross-college development days and staff‑training events.
· Design and deliver HR‑focused training modules (e.g. conflict resolution, performance management, inclusive behaviours).
· Provide cover and administrative support to the Learning & Development Administrator as required.
Education, Skills and Requirements:
· GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English (Grades 4-9 / A‑C) or equivalent qualification.
· CIPD Certificate in HR Practice (or equivalent) or willingness to work toward a recognised HR qualification.
· Proven HR/employee relations experience in a professional setting.
· Experience in further/higher education is highly desirable.
· Strong track record coordinating employee wellbeing and inclusion initiatives.
· Experience advising managers and colleagues with up‑to‑date knowledge of UK employment law.
· Skilled performance and talent management support.
· Experience supporting HR decision‑makers in formal proceedings (investigations, disciplinary or grievance).
· Comfortable handling sensitive information with discretion, professionalism and confidentiality.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
