Summary

Can you be a listening ear and a source of support for parents and nursery staff?Woodlands School is an outstanding special school for pupils aged 2 to 19 years of age with Severe or Profound Learning Difficulties. In addition, some pupils have complex medical needs or autism. Woodlands is the provider for Autism Outreach for Schools in East Surrey.We are currently looking to appoint an Outreach Support Assistant within our Outreach Department, with effect from September 2025. The role will be primarily to support our work with nurseries and Early Year settings to deliver the STEPS program (Supporting Targeted Education & Play Skills). The role will involve supporting parents and Surrey nurseries or pre-schools to meet the needs of their children with Autism and related difficulties. This will include observing children, meeting with nursery staff, home visits to parents, resource-making and modelling best practice. The role requires an in-depth knowledge of a range of strategies to support pupils with autism and experience of supporting pupils in the EY setting or classroom. You will be writing short reports to summarise visits, as well as supporting the outreach team with administrative tasks, so the ability to use a laptop and a good standard of written English is essential.It is a requirement of the role that you have a full driving licence and use of a reliable car. Applicants will be working across the East of Surrey, with some meetings at Woodlands School, Leatherhead and some at Freemantles School, Woking. Mileage will be reimbursed for travel at a current rate of 45p per mile. The position is to be paid at Surrey Pay scale PS6 - £29,697 to £31,848 FTE depending on experience. This role is term-time only, either part-time or full-time for up to 36 hours per week over a work pattern to be negotiated to suit both parties and will be paid pro-rata. Initially the post will be for a fixed term of 1 year, ending 31/08/2026, however there is a possibility for the role to be extended. An Enhanced DBS check will be essential.
