Summary


SMCFIC is seeking to appoint a Regional Lynch Syndrome Nursing Lead to cover the North Thames Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (GMSA), the Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH) and corresponding cancer alliances that will facilitate, support, and engage with primary and secondary care colleagues to develop pathways and embed genomic testing for Lynch syndrome and/or advice for all service users in cancer care. The role will also encompass management responsibilities within SMCFIC under the supervision of the Consultant Nurse.

The role ensures that patients and their relatives have access to genetic testing with shorter waiting times, in a way that conforms to standard testing by NHS England. They will work with the SMCFIC team and local Clinical Genetics Teams to help with local mainstreaming under the guidance of NICE, local policies, Cancer Alliances, GMSA, and local commissioning groups.

Prior knowledge of genomics is required for this role and all appropriate induction, training and ongoing support will be provided.

· Assist the nurse consultant with the comprehensive and effective management of patients with Lynch Syndrome

· Participate in genetic conversations with patients, individuals, and families in a systematic way and in accordance with NICE and local guidelines.

Liaise with regional, national, and international colleagues to obtain and provide information both for the benefit of individual families, as well as to promote general awareness of the genetic, mainstreaming and cancer services

· Teach and support staff in all clinical areas within the trust and regionally, nationally and internationally in the highly specialised management of patients with Lynch Syndrome

· Raising awareness, disseminating information and supporting the integration of Lynch Syndrome testing and screening into routine clinical care with the aim of equal access to for all patients to diagnostic testing for Lynch Syndrome

· Aiding in an education programme for colorectal and endometrial nurse specialists in accordance with the objectives as set out by SMCFIC

· Provide leadership, support, direction and continuous education to the nominated link CNS at colorectal and endometrial MDTs to identify patients with Lynch Syndrome and stablishing and managing mainstreaming protocols.

Line-manage and assist the nurse consultant with the management of the nurse practitioners within the unit and with other unit management responsibilities.
