Job Description
Glasgow Life is looking for two Libraries and Communities Coordinators to join us on 35 hour per week full time permanent contracts. These roles are both within the operations areas of focus. One post is to support the operational management of the city’s community library network, comprising 32 libraries spread across Glasgow. The second post is to support the operational management of the Glasgow’s community centre estate. In the role, you will be supporting Libraries & Communities officers responsible for operationally managing clusters of venues citywide, ensuring consistency in operations and responsiveness of the service and venue-based teams to local and city strategic plans.
Within these roles, you will be part of a dedicated team which supports the development and delivery of Libraries and Community Centres operated by Glasgow Life, ensuring that buildings and services meet the needs of local communities and service users and are managed as efficiently, safely and cost effectively as possible.
More about our Libraries and Communities Teams
The Libraries & Communities team is made up of two interdependent teams:
Service Development and Operations, Infrastructure & Customer Experience.
Both teams work closely together to deliver high-quality services across the city, aligned with our service plan, community needs, with a strong focus on supporting those who are most marginalised.
Although each team has distinct responsibilities, flexibility and collaboration across teams are essential. By sharing resources, skills, and knowledge, we are better positioned to achieve our goals and meet the diverse needs of our communities and citizens.
As a Libraries and Communities Coordinator, you will be joining our Glasgow Life Libraries and Communities service. The service includes Glasgow’s 32 community libraries, the Mitchell Library, school libraries, community facilities, and services for early years, children and families, adult learning, inclusion and employability, and wellbeing, youth, and community development. Working across all age groups and communities, they design and deliver engaging programmes that promote learning, creativity, participation, employment, and personal growth. Their work involves collaboration, partnerships, referral routes, removing barriers and creating solutions to issues impacting on the lives of Glasgow citizens. Libraries provide a cultural and creative place for all ages. They offer a place to read for pleasure and purpose, and collections which support literacy development. Glasgow's Libraries also have e-lending, author talks, book groups and festivals. People can access special collections as well as archives and family/local history. Libraries are also an important place where the digitally excluded can get online and access a range of resources.
Community venues including community centres allow people to take part in a variety of cultural and sporting activities and offer a range of learning and support services across the city.
Our libraries and community facilities play a vital role in local communities and provide a wide range of programmes and activities.
