Typical day as a Procurement Apprentice
- You’ll assist the Procurement Team in maintaining a smooth buying process for our colleagues, whilst also ensuring they follow the rules to ensure we remain compliant. Your contribution is valuable to the wider team and the work you do helps keep the wheels turning across the whole business.
- You’ll help colleagues understand and stick to Home Group’s buying policies, so we spend money wisely and reduce any risks. That means processing of purchase requisitions and help us keep on top of the busy procurement inbox to answer queries.
- You’ll get involved with our projects, assist with the prep of documents, and as you grow in this role, we’ll support you to manage your own small value projects including showing your recommendations on the best offer and carrying out analysis to help us make the right decisions to ensure we receive value for our money.
- You’ll report into one of our Team Managers and have a mentor from within the team, someone who does a similar role, who will offer additional guidance and support. Our friendly team will be with you every step of the way to guide you.
- Work with an expert apprenticeship delivery partner to attend all learning and achieve an industry recognised qualification.
- Getting support from an experienced tutor as well as your own team. You will have access to the learning materials and practical experience to make a success of your apprenticeship and achieve your qualification.

About you
- You meet the entry requirements of the training requirements which are 5 G.C.S.E’s grades A-C (9-4) (including English and Math’s) and you’ll be able to evidence (or predicted to attain) a minimum of at least two A-levels (or equivalent, or you could have a minimum of two years of experience in a business setting).
- You’re going to really impress us if you’re proactive, professional and eager to gain new skills in a business environment. You’ll be great at meeting deadlines and able to work on your own initiative.
- A genuine interest in learning and personal and professional development and complete additional study in your own time to prepare for exams – this is a learning role after all!
- You’ll learn the skills to communicate confidently with a variety of stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
- We’re a high-tech organisation so we need you to have basic IT skills and a willingness to learn more, don’t worry though, we can help with this by helping develop skills in areas such as Microsoft word, excel and power point.
- You’ll be organised with a good eye for detail. Able to manage multiple tasks without losing track because staying on top of things really helps keep the business running smoothly.
Our team
You’ll join Paula and our Procurement team; we’re a friendly team of 20 people with lots of experience and knowledge who are keen to teach you all you need to know to help you grow and development in this role. Some of our team include former apprentices who started out in this very role.
Job details
- You will be doing a level 4 qualification, and this will last 24 months. You’ll gain stacks of experience to help you launch your career.
- Many of our apprentices secure a permanent role with us so who knows where you’ll end up in the future!
- This is a hybrid role, based at least two days a week from our office at One Strawberry Lane, Newcastle, and one day a week at college in Darlington (we’ll pay your travel expenses to college). You will be able to work from home on other days.
- You will have built in time (20% of your working week) for study and support for working towards your qualification.
