As a member of our small yet forward-thinking infection prevention and control team, they will actively contribute to our commitment to enhancing patient care and safety. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for articulating best practices in infection prevention and control across our diverse range of services and engaging with stakeholders.
Serving as a pivotal figure in our infection prevention and control agenda, the candidate will collaborate closely with clinical and non-clinical staff throughout the organization to ensure the effective implementation of robust infection prevention and control measures. Furthermore, they will play a crucial role in developing a high-quality, proactive, and evidence-based infection prevention and control service aimed at reducing healthcare-associated infections and improving patient and staff safety organization-wide.
The successful candidate must demonstrate strong teamwork skills, along with the ability to work independently when necessary, possess proficiency in computer literacy, and exhibit excellent organizational abilities.
Main Duties of the job
• Collaborate with the Infection Prevention & Control Team to deliver a comprehensive infection control service across all organizational sites, continuously analysing complex information and employing problem-solving skills to mitigate the incidence of healthcare-associated infections.
• Support the IPC Team in their day-to-day activities, including reviewing microbiology/virology results, interpreting findings for patients/staff, and advising on suitable control measures considering various complex factors. This involves conducting infection control ward rounds, facilitating training sessions, and conducting audits.
• Assist in ongoing surveillance and analysis to detect healthcare-associated infections early, providing guidance on outbreak management in coordination with the Senior Nurse.
• Contribute to the implementation of an infection control link nurse program, working closely with the Senior Nurse to ensure effectiveness.
• Maintain a visible presence in clinical areas, serving as a role model and advocate for high standards of infection prevention and control, and addressing instances of substandard practice as necessary.
• Oversee and maintain a robust local fit testing service, ensuring staff have appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Support the extended IPC team in the development of organization-wide policies related to infection prevention and control, including those concerning decontamination, Aseptic Non-Touch Technique (ANTT), and standard infection prevention and control precautions.
