We're looking for a dedicated and compassionate female support worker to provide essential care for a gentleman in his 30s.This role is perfect for someone patient, kind, and understanding who can create a calm and supportive environment. Please note, due to the individual's specific needs, non-drivers are welcome to apply.

About the Individual: He has Lennox Gastaut Syndrome (a severe form of epilepsy), experiencing multiple seizures daily. He also has Bilateral Vocal Cord Palsy and Learning Difficulties. He is autistic, which means he dislikes change, being touched, and loud noises. He thrives on routine and prefers to stay in his familiar environment, only going out with his mum. He appreciates people who speak in a soft tone and don't rush him.

In 2017, he suffered a fractured hip and uses a Zimmer frame for mobility. He also experiences chronic constipation.

Your Role Will Involve:

  • Epilepsy Management: Observing and responding to various types of seizures (tonic-clonic, atonic, myoclonic, complex partial, and atypical absences). You'll need to be quick-thinking and decisive, intervening only if he's in danger.

  • Personal Care: Assisting with shaving, washing, occasional clothes changes, strip washes, and pad changes. You'll need to communicate clearly before any changes and give him time to process. Patience is key if he initially refuses, as explaining why the change is necessary can help.

  • Mobility Support: Helping him with his Zimmer frame and providing support if he tries to stand, to ensure his safety due to his hip injury.

  • Health Monitoring: Understanding and assisting with his chronic constipation, including abdominal massage when tolerated (training will be provided).

  • Communication & Engagement: Interacting in a calm, quiet, and patient manner. He appreciates being spoken to as an adult and needs time to process information. You'll be engaging with him during his day in the front room.

  • Understanding Autism: Respecting his boundaries regarding touch and noise, and understanding that he may withdraw or become vocal if he dislikes someone. Building trust is paramount.

Key Qualities We're Looking For:

  • Female only applicants. This is a genuine occupational requirement due to the need for intimate personal care for a male individual, where privacy and dignity considerations necessitate a female carer. This is permitted under the Equality Act 2010.

  • Experience or understanding of Lennox Gastaut Syndrome and complex epilepsy.

  • Knowledge of autism spectrum disorder and its impact on daily life and communication.

  • Patience, kindness, and a quiet demeanor.

  • Ability to think and act fast in medical situations.

  • Reliable and committed.

  • Minimum 6 months experience

If you are a compassionate individual looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference, we encourage you to apply. You'll be working closely with his mother.
