We are looking for a Senior Cook to work at our residential care home based in Hackenthorpe, S12.
Hours: 35 hours per week
Shift Pattern: 7.00am / 7:30am to 3.30pm/4.00pm x 3 days per week, including weekends (usually alternate) and bank holiday work
Pay: £13.76 per hour
All new team members are required to attend an induction at our training room in S13 prior to starting work in the care home. These are run every three weeks, starting on a Monday, between 9:30am until 3:30pm.
About the Role:
Cotleigh Residential Home is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Cook to lead our kitchen team. You will play a key role in providing high-quality, nutritious, and well-balanced meals that support the health and wellbeing of our residents. As Senior Cook, you'll take responsibility for menu planning, food preparation, kitchen hygiene, and supervision of kitchen staff.
Key Responsibilities:
•Supervise kitchen staff in the preparation and serving of daily meals.
•Develop and maintain weekly menus that reflect residents’ preferences, cultural needs, and dietary requirements.
•Ensure the kitchen operates in compliance with food hygiene, health and safety regulations.
•Oversee ordering, receiving, and checking food deliveries, ensuring quality and correct stock levels.
•Monitor and manage the kitchen provisions budget efficiently.
•Maintain accurate records of fridge/freezer temperatures and undertake regular cleaning.
•Report any concerns regarding food safety, supplies, or kitchen equipment to management.
•Plan and prepare food for special occasions and seasonal events.
•Ensure all food is stored and labelled correctly, following stock rotation procedures.
•Participate in team meetings, staff supervision, and training activities.
•Support recruitment, training, and buddying of new kitchen staff members.
•Work within Cotleigh’s Management Charter and uphold our core values.
•Undertake any other reasonable duties in line with the role.
Person Specification:
•Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a similar role (e.g., senior cook or kitchen supervisor).
•Strong knowledge of food hygiene, allergy awareness, and dietary needs.
•Ability to lead and motivate a small team.
•Good organisational and time management skills.
•Friendly, approachable, and respectful of the needs of older people.
•Willingness to learn and take part in training and development.
•Able to work flexibly, including weekends and bank holidays when required.
