Chemistry Lecturer - East London
We are working with a well-established further education college in East London who are seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Chemistry Lecturer to join their science department from September 2025. This full-time, temporary role is ideal for someone with a strong academic background and a passion for inspiring learners at A Level and/or Level 3 BTEC.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in Chemistry, aligned with AQA, OCR, or Edexcel specifications
- Teach key areas such as organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry, as well as practical lab skills and safety
- Create effective lesson plans and learning materials that support both theory and hands-on practical work
- Assess and mark student work accurately, providing timely, constructive feedback
- Prepare learners for exams and practical assessments, including required practical endorsements
- Monitor student progress and implement interventions where needed
- Support academic and pastoral development to help students achieve and progress to university or employment
- Participate in curriculum development, team meetings, internal verification, and quality assurance activities
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment
Essential Criteria:
- A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent) or willingness to achieve one
- A degree in Chemistry or a related subject (e.g., Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering)
- Experience teaching Chemistry at A Level and/or Level 3 in a post-16 or FE setting
- Strong subject knowledge and familiarity with current curriculum frameworks and assessment criteria
- Ability to manage practical lab sessions and ensure health & safety standards
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- Enhanced DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience teaching Access to HE Science or Level 2 courses
- Familiarity with digital teaching platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Moodle)
- Experience supporting students with UCAS applications and subject-specific careers guidance
