Staff Wellbeing Lead
Salary:£41,250
Mitie Care & Custody (C&C) is driven by a bold vision: to establish HMP Millsike as a place of restoration and rehabilitation, where prisoners can unlock their full potential and make meaningful, positive changes in their lives. We are excited by the opportunity Millsike presents: a blank canvas on which we can paint a bright future for our prisoners. Our mission is clear: to create an environment that empowers, inspires, and supports individuals to re-enter society with hope, purpose, and a life plan. To achieve this, we will set a culture of rehabilitation and restoration underpinned by integrity and high expectations. Prisoners will experience a dramatic shift from traditional prison environments. Millsike will be a vibrant, bustling community, teeming with industry, activity and opportunities for personal growth. Above all, we will ensure our approach offers a deep sense of safety/respect, through a supportive, uplifting environment, that helps prisoners to see their potential and that unlocks a brighter future for all.
Job objectives and responsibilities
We are seeking a dedicated Wellbeing Lead to create a secure and effective working environment for our colleagues through comprehensive wellbeing support. This role involves producing and reviewing the 'One Millsike' Health and Wellbeing Strategy, promoting wellbeing among colleagues, managers, and stakeholders, and building strong relationships with key personnel.
The successful candidate will collaborate with various teams, such as the Gym Manager, to develop and deliver workshops and training for staff health and wellbeing. They will also work with Millsike's Business and Community Lead to establish connections with community organizations that can support colleagues' specific needs, and serve as an active peer mentor to staff to assist in skill set development across the prison.
Responsibilities include maintaining a library of support services accessible both locally and nationally, championing staff wellbeing and inclusion, and ensuring a workplace free from derogatory, bullying, or offensive behavior and language. The role also involves coordinating and attending debriefing sessions post-incident, focusing on staff wellbeing and aftercare.
The Health and Wellbeing Lead will manage and coordinate internal programs like Mental Health First Aid and TRiM (Trauma Risk Management), identify and escalate staff wellbeing issues as needed, and monitor and track wellbeing data to inform service development. They will also coordinate internal and external support provisions, identify and organize events to support colleague wellbeing, and foster a restorative culture within the workforce.
Additionally, the role includes setting up and chairing monthly multi-agency Health and Wellbeing meetings, and working with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to monitor sickness absence data and implement targeted interventions to reduce absenteeism.
If you are passionate about promoting health and wellbeing in the workplace and have the skills to lead and support our colleagues effectively, we would love to hear from you. Apply now to join our team and make a positive impact on our workforce's wellbeing.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate should understand the boundaries around confidentiality and discretion, maintaining integrity commensurate to the role. They should have experience in developing and leading an employee wellbeing provision within a large-scale organisation, as well as knowledge of safeguarding procedures within such environments. Experience at a supervisory or management level is required, along with a proven track record of driving change in a complex, fast-paced environment.
The candidate must be a clear communicator, capable of building rapport and responding to complex and sensitive issues. They should be skilled in conflict resolution, demonstrating high levels of empathy, self-regulation, and emotional intelligence. Competence in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and central IT systems at a basic to intermediate level is necessary.
Additionally, the candidate must be willing and able to pass DBS and vetting up to Counter Terrorism Level (CTC), and be prepared to complete any training deemed essential for the role. Demonstrating empathy and compassion towards others is also crucial.
As a business, Mitie Care & Custody is committed to diversity and inclusion and we would welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds including veterans, those looking for a career change, and people who have experience in social care or a learning environment. Full training will be given where applicable, and we would encourage anyone who might be thinking about a role in a secure establishment to get in touch.
