The role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic Operational & Technical Support Assistant to join the Regulatory Services Partnership (RSP). This vital role is based within the Operational and Technical Support unit, which provides high-quality advice and information across a range of contact channels to residents, businesses, and stakeholders as well as delivering a wide range of administrative and technical tasks including liaising with all responsible parties and stakeholders, accurately capturing and inputting data, assessing applications, checking and verifying documents, processing payments and issuing licenses.
The RSP delivers services including Licensing, Food and Safety, Noise Nuisance, Air Quality and Pollution, Pest Control, Private Sector Housing, and Trading Standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Acting as a first point of contact for residents, businesses, and stakeholders via telephone, email, online portals, and in-person enquiries.
Providing accurate advice and information in line with current legislation and service procedures
Processing a range of applications and requests for Noise and Pollution, Food and Safety, pest control and less complex applications such as Temporary Event Notices, Personal Licences,
Street Trading permits
Accurately inputting and managing data using a variety of IT systems
Handling and processing payments and refunds in line with council financial procedures
Preparing and issuing statutory notices, letters, and licences
Maintaining accurate records and filing systems in compliance with GDPR and Data Protection regulations
Supporting operational and professional officers with administrative tasks and service requests
Collating performance data and contributing to service improvement initiatives
Participating in relevant training and meetings, and providing cover for colleagues as required
Provide administrative and business support to the operational and professional officers
What the client is looking for:
A minimum of 3 GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English or relevant experience
NVQ qualification in Customer Service
Understanding of local authority and regulatory services
Working knowledge of legislation in one or more areas: Licensing, Food Safety, Private Sector Housing, Trading Standards, Noise & Nuisance, Air Quality, or Pest Control
Proven frontline customer service experience with excellent people skills
Adaptable and experienced in fast-changing environments
Background in providing technical admin support within local government or similar settings
Experience of handling and processing payments
Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Office
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Solid numeracy skills – confident with calculations, percentages, fractions, and accurate data handling
Team player with a calm, confident, and respectful approach to public and contractor interactions
Quick to grasp and explain complex technical details in simple terms
