Summary
Communicate condition related information in a sensitive mannerSupport nervous patients, patients with additional needs and paediatric patientsCommunicate condition related information to staff as appropriateCommunicate complex, sensitive service related information to staff that may require tact and persuasive skillsApply knowledge of a range of dental nursing procedures, acquired through training and experience, including knowledge gained from post registration qualificationsProvide chair side clinical support to dental activityIdentify urgent cases and triage referrals as appropriateUse problem solving skills to managed daily issues, such as, equipment breakdowns or staffing shortagesPlan and allocate daily activities for nurses within the defined clinic location(s)Arrange meetings for the service to support continued quality performanceOrganise staffing rota for a defined location(s)Organise staff training for the nurses in conjunction with the other Dental Nurse Team LeadersAssemble and use dental equipment as requiredTrain Band 4 Dental Nurses on new dental equipmentProvide pre and post-operative advice and instructions for dental proceduresEnsure Trust and Service policies are implemented (SOPs, SALUS, radiology, IPC etc)Ensure relevant legislation is implementedContribute towards policy development for the Community Dental ServiceTake payments on behalf of the service for NHS dental workAssemble and dismantle dental equipmentEnsure all equipment is available in defined clinic location(s)Order supplies as requiredProvide day to day management of a defined location(s)Supervise junior staff and studentsProvide training to new starters and regular training to existing members of staffWork in conjunction with the CDS management team to recruit for Band 4 Dental NursesManage sickness absence, including acting as lead contact for absence reporting for the Band 4 Dental Nurses and completing return to work interviewsMaintain patient records accuratelyParticipate in environmental and clinical auditsAccountable for own professional actionsSupport patients and their parents/carers with learning disabilities and challenging behavioursWork with the integrated management team to ensure the delivery of clinic and GA based activityAct in accordance with the General Dental Council, (and other) relevant professional codes of practice and statutory guidelines and be accountable for your actions at all times.Undertake appropriate training and practice to ensure you have the right skills and are competent e.g. mandatory and non mandatory training and any other programmes as identified by your line manager.
