Summary


The position is based at Mile End Hospital, which serves a vibrant and diverse population across Tower Hamlets. Tower Hamlets is an exciting and challenging place to work in the heart of London’s East End. Barts Health NHS Trust is actively involved in impacting health inequalities across the borough. We have excellent interpretation and advocacy services, with close links to supportive services locally.

The post holder will work closely with the established multidisciplinary teams at Mile End Hospital, as well as GP and other community services across the borough. There is a requirement for a good clinical understanding of diabetes and nutritional support, as well as organisational and time management skills.

The post holder will provide individually tailored advice to patients, their families and their carers. They will participate in two courses of Xpert (structured education for people with type 2 diabetes) per year, as well as participating in staff education. It is the expectation that this post holder, along with the other Dietitians, will manage their caseload and undertake audits and reviews to help with the continual development of the service. The post holder would need to demonstate good leadership qualities and the ability to show initative in leading projects.
- To work as a member of the diabetes and community dietetic team, providing a service to people with diabetes at Mile End Hospital and across Tower Hamlets, and with patients at risk of malnutrition across Tower Hamlets
- To provide individually tailored advice to adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes in out- patient clinics at the Diabetes Centre and in GP surgeries across the borough
- To provide individually tailored advice to adults requiring nutritional support
- To deliver structured education for adults with type 2 diabetes
- To provide a specialised service and support complex patients, their families and carers
- To supervise student dietitians
- To ensure that research and audit is undertaken on a regular basis to ensure that practice is evidence based
