Job Summary

We seek a dynamic and creative individual to lead on high-quality content creation and production within our External Affairs directorate. There is a growing demand for impactful content of all kinds for use across the entire university, in communication and marketing campaigns, social media, our website and more. You will set the standard and will lead on delivering the University strategy for all types of content production, using it to elevate awareness of the university and engage with our stakeholders.
You will be strategic and proactive in your approach, able to manage a team of content creators to develop a range of dynamic content that can be used in all university campaigns and with all stakeholder engagement. You will be required to engage with a range of professional connections at all levels, from students to members of the University’s Executive and also to actively develop a range of external connections including agencies and freelancers.

Job Description
RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Marketing
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Social Media Marketing Coordinator and managing a flexible team of student content creators who will work on a range of content creation projects.
PURPOSE OF POST: To lead on the production and management of engaging, impactful and creative content of all media types for the purpose of strategic marketing and communications.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Develop and implement a creative content strategy, covering all forms of content required to deliver the university’s strategy and create impact to both an internal and especially an external audience.
- Be the creative leader of the department, think beyond traditional approaches and bring fresh, sector-transcending ideas to inspire your team.
- Offer guidance and expert support in filming, animation, and editing to ensure the digital content team consistently produces high-quality, impactful content.
- Introduce a robust briefing process for the department when briefing in creative content projects and activity.
- Develop ways of working and prioritisation of workload related to creative media production within the department, including when to use external resources if there is no capacity within the team.
- Develop and lead a team of student content creators that aligns with the creative content strategy and ensures the authentic student voice is represented across all channels.
- Lead the implementation of effective and user-friendly ways to manage department media content assets, such as the introduction of a Digital Asset Management tool.
- Manage a content creation budget within the External Affairs budget and provide guidance to stakeholders across the university for creative projects involving additional expenditure.
- Provide advice and guidance to University colleagues for creating content and related media for marketing and communications purposes, ensuring consistency in institutional design and messaging.
- Ensure that all content created and produced adheres to the Robert Gordon University brand in terms of consistency, design and messaging.
- Lead on and ensure compliance with accessibility, copyright and GDPR regulations and guidelines in relation to all University marketing and communications creative media.
- Analysis and reporting of effectiveness of content media used in marketing and communications activity include paid campaigns and organic social media channels.
- Establish and maintain a network of contacts who have responsibility for video or related digital content as part of their roles to enable content creation.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Professional Memberships
- First degree in a related subject or substantial experience in a creative marketing and communications role.
Knowledge
- Excellent understanding of how to develop and implement a comprehensive creative content strategy that aligns with institutional objectives and engages both internal and external audiences.
- Strong grasp of brand management principles and how to apply them consistently across a range of media formats and creators.
- Excellent understanding and expertise in the use of photography, video and relevant media software, including related equipment and tools.
- Ability to generate new ideas, think creatively and motivate a team of creative content developers.
- Understanding of best practice and regulations relating to media used in marketing and communications.
Experience
- Experience of leading creative projects, with the ability to bring innovative, cross-sector ideas that go beyond traditional media approaches.
- Experience of using a variety of different media content types to create successful campaigns that have achieved clear objectives.
- Expertise in filming, animation, and video editing processes, including technical aspects and creative storytelling.
- Experience introducing and managing content briefing systems and workflow processes across multiple departments or stakeholders.
- Ability to analyse, interpret and report on the effectiveness of content, including both paid and organic digital campaigns.
- Experience working collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including marketing and communications, academic staff, and technical teams, to enable effective content creation and sharing.
DESIRABLE REQUIRMENTS
Knowledge
- Knowledge of media asset organisation and distribution, including the use and implementation of Digital Asset Management (DAM) tools.
- Knowledge of managing and optimising YouTube channels, including video SEO to improve visibility and reach.
Experience
- Experience in building and managing content creation teams, including student or junior content creators.
- Familiarity with managing creative content budgets and providing cost guidance on media projects.
