Family & Children Support Worker
Location: Refuge and community settings across Luton
Hours: 30 hours per week over 4 days
Pay: £13.50-18 per hour
Contract Type: Temporary, 3 months with potential to extend
Are you passionate about supporting children and families impacted by domestic abuse? We are seeking a committed Family & Children Support Worker to join our team, providing vital emotional, practical and developmental support to children and their families in refuge and outreach settings.
This is a key frontline role supporting children, young people, and families who have experienced domestic abuse. Working in both refuge and community settings, you will provide tailored support to help children feel safe, rebuild their confidence, and access essential services such as education and healthcare. You will also support parents with parenting challenges and ensure children's voices are heard in the recovery journey.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide one-to-one and group support to children and young people in refuge and outreach.
- Support parents around behavioural, emotional and educational needs of their children.
- Help families navigate access to schools, health services, and local agencies.
- Act as an advocate at appointments when appropriate.
- Plan activities and enrichment opportunities for children living in refuge.
- Ensure up-to-date, accurate case records and contribute to service monitoring.
- Liaise with external agencies and professionals around safeguarding concerns.
- Participate in out-of-hours rota and helpline support (training provided).
- Experience supporting children and families affected by domestic abuse or trauma.
- A working knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Empathy, resilience, and a child-centred approach to support.
- Ability to work flexibly, independently, and as part of a team.
