Summary

The Migration and Borders Group is responsible for guiding the UK’s immigration, borders, asylum and citizenship system, to ensure it is run in a coherent, end-to-end manner, providing great customer service and applying fair but firm controls, in line with the Ministerial objectives. The group works collaboratively with the Border Security Command and Capabilities in the Home Office, notably Border Force, Immigration Enforcement and Customer Services Group, which are delivering the front-line services, and with other key Government and external partners​

The Director of Border Policy is a senior role leading and developing policy and providing systems leadership on cross-cutting border issues. The Director will also work closely with operational partners and across Government.​

The Director will lead teams working on high profile issues such as border security, visa policy, goods and customs, the EU entry and exit scheme and the system crisis hub.​

The Director also has an important leadership in Migration and Borders Group and is a member of Border Force’s senior management board.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Home Office’s strategic vision and policies for securing the border.​
  • Working closely and in collaboration with partners in the Border Security, Border Force, HMRC and other external partners to deliver the Government’s priorities to secure the border.​
  • Leading the cross HMG programme around the introduction of the EU Entry / Exit System.​
  • Leading for the department on customs and goods policy.​
  • Leading and supporting work to transform the border, including leading the policy development and delivery for ETAs and eVisas. And reviewing the Border Force operating mandate.​
  • Leading work to review key visa policies.​
  • Leading the migration and border system’s crisis response capability.​
  • A senior leadership role in the Migration and Borders leadership team and a member of the Border Force senior board.
