Summary

The Civil Service Commission ensures recruitment, including to the most senior roles, is fair, open and based on merit. The Civil Service Commission also has important roles in relation to the Civil Service Code. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our high-profile organisation.

This is a unique opportunity to engage across government departments, senior civil servants and Civil Service Commissioners. The role involves ensuring adherence to the standards set out in the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010 and the Civil Service Commission's Recruitment Principles (2018). You will also promote the values outlined in the Civil Service Code: honesty, integrity, objectivity, and impartiality.

Our team supports the Board of Commissioners, chaired by the Rt. Hon. Baroness Gisela Stuart, First Civil Service Commissioner. We pride ourselves on being an expert, friendly, and impactful team that fosters collaboration and strongly emphasises staff wellbeing and career development.

This is an important and exciting role within a high-profile, independent non-departmental public body.

The Policy and Compliance Team sits at the heart of the Commission’s work with Commissioners, departments and senior leaders. As a Policy Officer, you will play a vital role in promoting the Recruitment Principles and Civil Service Code. You will support the application of these principles and the Code, and engage directly with senior stakeholders, Commissioners, and the public.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Policy and Compliance Team in developing policy materials for recruiting organisations and the public.
  • Managing a caseload of exceptional appointment requests under the Recruitment Principles.
  • Managing a caseload of complaints under the Recruitment Principles and the Civil Service Code.
  • Managing the Civil Service Commission’s inbox to ensure expert and timely advice to recruiting organisations across the Civil Service.
  • Using excellent communication skills to work with a range of senior stakeholders, including Commissioners and officials in government departments, cultivating relationships where necessary.
  • Supporting the Policy and Compliance Team in the delivery of its audit, training and data collection functions.
