Summary
To provide high-quality care and education for children aged 2 years to primary school age, in both Stepping Stones Playgroup and The Base (afterschool and holiday childcare). The role includes supporting early years learning and development, promoting children’s well-being, and ensuring a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2025, the Children Act 1989, and the service’s policies and procedures.
The role also involves supporting The Base by escorting children from local primary schools to the community centre and contributing to a range of play-based and structured activities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Curriculum and Activities
Support the delivery of a rich, engaging, and inclusive curriculum based on the EYFS 2025, supporting the intent, implementation, and impact of learning.
Help prepare and set up stimulating indoor and outdoor activities in line with weekly planning.
Ensure equipment is used appropriately and safely, and stored securely after each session.
Work closely with the Early Years Manager and Deputy to contribute ideas to weekly plans and themes.
2. Childcare and Supervision
Escort children safely from local primary schools to the setting (The Base) as required.
Engage with children during play, supporting their learning, development and well-being.
Supervise children in all areas, ensuring health, safety, and safeguarding standards are maintained at all times.
Provide personal care, including support with toileting and nappy changing, in line with safeguarding and dignity protocols.
3. Snack, Activities and Routines
Prepare and serve healthy snacks in accordance with dietary and hygiene requirements.
Set up and lead craft and creative activities that support children’s fine motor and expressive development.
Facilitate active play and sports sessions, encouraging physical development and teamwork.
4. Communication and Relationships
Foster positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
Promote parental involvement and maintain a welcoming and supportive environment for all families.
Attend regular staff meetings and training to support continuous professional development and setting improvement.
5. Safeguarding, Welfare and Compliance
Follow all safeguarding procedures and act promptly on concerns following the setting’s safeguarding policy.
Deliver first aid as required and record all accidents, incidents or concerns appropriately.
Ensure that all aspects of the EYFS and Every Child Matters framework are embedded in daily practice.
Uphold and promote inclusive practice, equality, and diversity in all aspects of work.
6. Professional Development and Standards
Participate in ongoing training and development to meet EYFS 2025 expectations and local quality standards.
Contribute to the review and development of policies, procedures, and quality improvement plans.
Demonstrate a commitment to reflective practice and continuous improvement.
Interviews to be held 4th or 5th August 2025
