We're looking for a confident, adaptable individual with experience in public speaking or working with young people to join a welcoming secondary school in the London Borough of Havering as a:
Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Cover Supervisor
- £115 per day (inclusive of holiday pay)
- Start Date: September
- Flexible rota - work only when you're available
This role is perfect if you're calm under pressure, great with people, and looking for a flexible opportunity to make a real difference in a school setting.
About the Role
You'll be part of a small team providing short-notice cover for absent teachers. Each day brings something new, and your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering pre-set lesson material to groups of up to 25 students (aged 11-18)
- Creating a supportive and productive classroom environment
- Managing behaviour using positive reinforcement strategies
- Supporting student learning with initiative and confidence
What We're Looking For
We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds. You might be a former youth worker, sports coach, actor, presenter-or already experienced in education. You'll thrive in this role if you have:
- Confidence managing groups and communicating clearly
- Strong classroom or behaviour management skills
- Experience in teaching, training, coaching or similar settings
- A subject specialism (desirable, but not essential)
Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor or HLTA is a bonus, but not required-we're more interested in your ability to engage and lead a classroom.
