Summary
We’re looking for a genuinely people-focused HR Manager to take full ownership of this HR function in a standalone role. You’ll be supporting a business of around 80 employees across 8 departments – including Transport, Finance, Operations, and more.
While you work across multiple teams, this isn’t a high-pressure, corporate environment – it operates much more like a close-knit SME, where everyone knows each other and values practical, common-sense support over corporate jargon.
You’ll work closely with the Managing Director be responsible for delivering a 360°, all-encompassing HR service – from strategic people planning to everyday support and problem solving. This role is ideal for someone who’s confident in their HR expertise but also happy to roll their sleeves up and get involved wherever needed.

Key Responsibilities
• Own and lead the HR function across the entire business, providing hands-on support at all levels.
• Deliver HR support that is practical, people-focused, and aligned with the needs of each department.
• Act as a trusted advisor to managers and staff, offering clear, down-to-earth guidance on HR matters.
• Manage the full employee lifecycle: recruitment, onboarding, L&D, engagement, ER, and exits.
• Support and coach managers in line with our values and HR best practices.
• Help shape and embed key people policies and frameworks, while remaining responsive to real-world needs.
• Handle recruitment and onboarding end-to-end, including job design, interviews, offers, and induction.
• Lead on wellbeing, engagement, and communication initiatives to strengthen our culture.
• Provide oversight to our HR Administrator while being hands-on yourself when needed.
• Work collaboratively with the MD on higher-level strategy, change management, and compliance.
What We're Looking For
• An experienced HR generalist or manager, ideally in a standalone or small HR team setup.
• Someone with exceptional soft skills – empathetic, approachable, a good listener, and confident communicator.
• A genuine team player who’s not precious about duties and happy to roll their sleeves up.
• Someone who enjoys variety and can switch between high-level strategy and day-to-day delivery.
• Practical knowledge of UK employment law – CIPD Level 5 (or equivalent experience) preferred.
• Resilient, calm under pressure, and able to build trust quickly across all levels of the business.
• Comfortable working closely with a commercially focused MD and operational heads.
