Summary

About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Nuclear Waste Engineer to join our Waste Management team. This critical role provides a high-quality, responsive service to support decommissioning projects and site infrastructure. The successful candidate will play a key part in securing the compliant disposal of nuclear waste and supporting the delivery of strategic waste targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a responsive and effective waste management service to support site decommissioning and infrastructure activities.

  • Plan and coordinate the compliant disposal of radioactive and non-radioactive waste volumes in line with regulatory and environmental requirements.

  • Work collaboratively with project teams to integrate waste management strategies into project planning and execution.

  • Monitor waste streams and contribute to waste characterization, segregation, treatment, and packaging activities.

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external regulators to ensure full compliance with national and site-specific legislation.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to optimize waste processes and reduce overall waste volumes.

  • Support the delivery of project and site waste management KPIs and reporting requirements.

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

  • Demonstrated experience in nuclear waste management or decommissioning projects.

  • Strong understanding of radioactive waste classification, handling, and disposal routes.

  • Familiarity with UK waste legislation, environmental compliance, and nuclear site license requirements.

  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary and regulated environment.

Desirable:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IMechE, IChemE, or SRP).

  • Knowledge of Low Level Waste (LLW), Intermediate Level Waste (ILW), and Very Low Level Waste (VLLW) disposal strategies.

  • Experience working on Nuclear Licensed Sites or within a regulatory framework.
